Today, as we were supposed to be working, I heard my name being shouted across the office to join a group huddling with coffee around a 10″ Sony television to watch the 44th president, Barack Obama, give his oath and requisite speech, and boy, am I glad I did.

I mean, how often do you get to see history pulling out the suitcase, kissing his wife goodbye and making his way across America?

Then, as I stood to leave and reflect on what was happening 700 miles away in Washington, I felt God tugging at me to stop and watch a tiny bit of applause push its way through the speakers. Not knowing what else to do, I sat back down and watched it mix itself with the clapping and shouting of coworkers, and then the whole thing rose to the resonant frequency of the entire room, making everything in it vibrate like a giant pager with the sound of real, audible hope.

I can’t tell you how good it was to hear that again.

The songs below have nothing to do with the above story, they’re just the ones speaking to me today.

A. Marching Band – Feel Good About It
B. Ingrid Michaelson – Be Ok
C. All The Pictures – Catherine of Aragon
